One of the great challenges in drug and alcohol addiction recovery is the inability or refusal of the addict to really look closely at his or her poor choices and the myriad consequences, their selfish nature, character defects and many other issues. Sometimes part of this challenge can be a result of some level of “narcissism.” A general definition of narcissism is—a condition in which people have an excessive sense of self-importance, an extreme preoccupation with themselves, and lack of empathy for others.
